Lorena (she/her) is a PhD researcher in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. After becoming a dietitian in Hermosillo, Mexico, she completed her Masters in Science in Nutrition and Metabolism at the Center for Food Research and Development where she looked at the changes in diet and the gut microbiota that happen after diagnosis in children with Type 1 Diabetes. At the Department of Nutritional Sciences, she now investigates the growth patterns of children from a birth cohort and the association with their gut microbiota and diet.
She enjoys learning about how our bodies work and sharing what she learns, with the goal to inspire curiosity. To help increase access to evidence-based science information in Latin American communities, Lorena shares social media content in Spanish.
